About Yoast Local SEO Premium 15.0

Yoast Local SEO is an add-on for businesses that serve customers in a particular area. It collects your business details in one place, name, type, address and opening hours, and then outputs them as structured data in the format search engines expect, on every relevant page, instead of leaving them as text on a contact page.

It also handles the technical side of local search: formatting addresses and opening hours, and generating the geo sitemap and KML file that tell search engines where your locations are. Businesses with several branches can add multiple locations and show them with maps and shortcodes or blocks.

It needs the free Yoast SEO plugin installed and active, and a Google Maps API key if you want maps to display. The file on record is from early 2022, and a WooCommerce version of this add-on exists separately for shops that offer local pickup.

Requirements

  • The free Yoast SEO plugin, installed and active
  • A Google Maps API key, for maps

Key features

Business details in schema
Enter your name, type and address once, and have them output as structured data across the site.
Opening hours
Set opening hours, including different hours for different days, and show them on the page.
Multiple locations
Add several branches, each with its own details, for businesses with more than one site.
Maps and store locator
Show your locations on a map, so customers can find the nearest one.
Geo sitemap and KML file
Generate the location files that help search engines understand where you operate.
Address and contact output
Place your address, opening hours and contact details on a page with shortcodes or blocks.

Is it right for you?

A good fit for

  • Local businesses such as shops, clinics, restaurants and trades
  • Companies with several branches that each need their own details
  • Sites that already use Yoast SEO and want local SEO from the same family

Look elsewhere if

  • Online-only businesses with no physical location or service area
  • Sites that don't run Yoast SEO, since this is an add-on for it
  • WooCommerce shops that need pickup features, which have their own separate Yoast add-on

How to install Yoast Local SEO Premium 15.0

  1. 1

    Download the file

Open My Account → Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.

  2. 2

    Upload it to WordPress

In your dashboard go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and choose the zip.

  3. 3

    Install and activate

Click Install Now, then Activate. If an older or free copy is already installed, WordPress offers to replace it with the uploaded version.

Notes for this product

  • Install and activate the free Yoast SEO plugin first. Local SEO extends it and doesn't run on its own.

Setup: using Yoast Local SEO Premium 15.0

  1. Open the Local SEO settings. In the Yoast SEO menu, open the Local SEO page.
  2. Enter your business details. Add your business name, type, address, phone number and opening hours.
  3. Add more locations if needed. If you have several branches, switch on multiple locations and add each one.
  4. Add your Google Maps API key. Enter a key in the settings so maps can display on your pages.
  5. Place the details on a page. Use the shortcodes or blocks to show your address, hours and map on your contact page.
  6. Test the structured data. Run your contact page through Google's Rich Results Test and confirm it shows a local business.

Common problems and fixes

The map doesn't display
Why it happens
No Google Maps API key has been entered, or the key's restrictions or billing setup don't allow your site.
How to fix it
Add a valid key in the Local SEO settings and check in Google Cloud that it allows your domain.
Two sets of local business data appear in the page source
Why it happens
Your theme or another plugin also outputs local business schema.
How to fix it
Turn off local schema in the other plugin or theme, so Yoast's is the only source.
Opening hours or address don't show in the structured data
Why it happens
The business details are incomplete, or the page has no local information.
How to fix it
Complete the required fields on the Local SEO page, then retest with the Rich Results Test.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
Why it happens
The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
How to fix it
Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
Why it happens
The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
How to fix it
Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
Why it happens
Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
How to fix it
Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
Why it happens
The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
How to fix it
Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the free Yoast SEO plugin?

Yes. Local SEO extends it, so the free plugin has to be installed and active.

Can I add more than one location?

Yes. Multiple locations can be added, each with its own details, and shown together on a map.

Do I need a Google Maps API key?

Only if you want maps to show. The structured data and other features don't depend on it.

Is there a version for WooCommerce shops?

Yes. Yoast sells a separate Local SEO for WooCommerce add-on, aimed at shops with local pickup.

Will it get me into the local map results?

It makes your business information clear to search engines, but local rankings also depend on your Google Business Profile, reviews and competition.
