About SearchWP WordPress Plugin 4.3.9

SearchWP replaces the built-in WordPress search with its own index and ranking. It can be set to look through content the default search ignores, such as custom fields, taxonomies and other post types, and you decide how much each source counts toward relevance.

The file on record is version 4.3.9 from October 2022, although the slug mentions 4.0.31. It is a 4.64 MB plugin from SearchWP, LLC. Test it with your current WordPress and PHP on a staging site first. Add-ons such as the live search, results order and term priority are separate items, not part of this plugin.

Key features

Custom search engines
You choose which post types and fields are searched and how they are weighted.
Own search index
Builds an index in the background rather than querying the database directly.
Relevance ranking
Orders results by weights you set for titles, content, custom fields and taxonomies.
Replaces default search
Works through your theme's existing search form and results page.

Is it right for you?

A good fit for

  • Sites whose built-in search returns poor or empty results
  • Content-heavy sites with custom post types, custom fields or documents to search

Look elsewhere if

  • Small sites with a handful of pages, where default search is enough
  • Anyone expecting live search suggestions without adding extra search tools

How to install SearchWP WordPress Plugin 4.3.9

  1. 1

    Download the file

Open My Account → Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.

  2. 2

    Upload it to WordPress

In your dashboard go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and choose the zip.

  3. 3

    Install and activate

Click Install Now, then Activate. If an older or free copy is already installed, WordPress offers to replace it with the uploaded version.

Notes for this product

  • The search results page is rendered by your theme. If your theme uses a custom search template, SearchWP changes the results but not the layout.

Setup: using SearchWP WordPress Plugin 4.3.9

  1. Activate and open the settings. Open the SearchWP settings from the admin menu after activation.
  2. Configure the default engine. Choose which post types and fields to include and set their weights.
  3. Let the index build. Wait for indexing to finish before judging the results.
  4. Test real searches. Search for terms your visitors use and adjust the weights.

Common problems and fixes

Search returns few or no results right after setup
Why it happens
The index hasn't finished building yet.
How to fix it
Leave the SearchWP settings page open until indexing completes, then search again.
Search results look unchanged
Why it happens
The theme or another plugin runs its own search query instead of the main one.
How to fix it
Use the theme's standard search form, and test with other search plugins deactivated.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
Why it happens
The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
How to fix it
Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
Why it happens
The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
How to fix it
Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
Why it happens
Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
How to fix it
Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
Why it happens
The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
How to fix it
Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need other plugins?

No. It works on its own. Separate add-ons exist but are optional.

Which version is on file?

Version 4.3.9 from October 2022.

Will it search WooCommerce products?

The listing doesn't say. Check the engine settings and documentation for supported post types.

Is it compatible with Yoast SEO?

The legacy listing claims it, but search plugins and SEO plugins serve different jobs; test the two together on staging.
