About Elegant Themes Divi Builder 4.23.4

Divi Builder is the page builder from Elegant Themes, packaged as a plugin. It lets you design pages visually: you add sections, rows and content modules, edit them on the page, and see the result as you work. It runs inside whichever theme you already use.

That separates it from the Divi theme, which includes the same builder together with a design. With the plugin you keep your current theme and use Divi only for page content. Saved layouts can be reused from the Divi Library.

The file on record is version 4.23.4, released in July 2022, and the package is about 13 megabytes. Test it with your current WordPress and PHP versions on a staging site before using it on a live site.

  • Anyone who wants to avoid builder shortcodes in their page content

How to install Elegant Themes Divi Builder 4.23.4

  1. 1

    Download the file

Open My Account → Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.

  2. 2

    Upload it to WordPress

In your dashboard go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and choose the zip.

  3. 3

    Install and activate

Click Install Now, then Activate. If an older or free copy is already installed, WordPress offers to replace it with the uploaded version.

Notes for this product

  • Don't run this plugin together with the Divi theme. The theme already contains the builder, and having both can cause conflicts.

Setup: using Elegant Themes Divi Builder 4.23.4

  1. Activate the plugin. After activating, you will see a Divi menu in the WordPress admin.
  2. Enable the builder on a page. Edit a page and choose the option to use the Divi Builder.
  3. Build with sections and rows. Add a section, a row layout and your first modules, then style them.
  4. Save useful layouts. Save sections you will reuse to the Divi Library.
  5. Preview on mobile. Use the responsive view to check tablet and phone layouts, then publish.

Common problems and fixes

The builder won't load, or the editor stays on a loading screen
Why it happens
A plugin conflict, a JavaScript error, or too little PHP memory.
How to fix it
Raise the PHP memory limit, disable other plugins one at a time, and check the browser console for errors.
Pages show shortcode text after the plugin is deactivated
Why it happens
Builder content is stored as shortcodes, which only render while the builder is active.
How to fix it
Reactivate the plugin, or rebuild the pages in another builder before removing it.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
Why it happens
The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
How to fix it
Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
Why it happens
The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
How to fix it
Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
Why it happens
Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
How to fix it
Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
Why it happens
The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
How to fix it
Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Divi Builder and the Divi theme?

The theme includes the builder plus a design. The plugin adds only the builder to a theme you already use.

Can I use it with any theme?

It is designed to work with other themes. Test your key pages, as some themes style builder content differently.

What happens to my pages if I remove it?

The content is stored as shortcodes, so pages will show leftover code once the plugin is gone.

Will it work with current WordPress?

The file dates from July 2022, so test it on a staging copy first.
