About AffiliateWP Allowed Products Addon 1.3

Allowed Products is an add-on for AffiliateWP, the WordPress affiliate plugin. By default AffiliateWP pays commission on any sale an affiliate refers. This add-on lets you pick specific products, and only sales of those products generate referrals. Everything else in your programme, from affiliate links to payouts, keeps working as before.

It is useful when some items have margins too thin to share, or when your affiliate programme is built around a few products. AffiliateWP must be installed and connected to your store plugin first. The file on record is version 1.3 and dates from June 2018, so test it with your current AffiliateWP and store plugin on a staging site.

Requirements

  • AffiliateWP
  • A store or form plugin connected to AffiliateWP, such as WooCommerce

Key features

Choose eligible products
Mark the products that are allowed to generate referrals.
No commission on other items
Sales of products outside your list don't create referrals.
Works through AffiliateWP
Uses AffiliateWP's existing tracking, so affiliate links and cookies stay the same.
Store integration
Works with the store plugin AffiliateWP is connected to, such as WooCommerce.
Small, focused add-on
Changes one rule in your programme without adding new screens for affiliates.

Is it right for you?

A good fit for

  • AffiliateWP sites that only want to pay commission on selected products
  • Stores protecting low-margin items from affiliate payouts

Look elsewhere if

  • Sites without AffiliateWP, since this add-on does nothing on its own

How to install AffiliateWP Allowed Products Addon 1.3

  1. 1

    Download the file

Open My Account → Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.

  2. 2

    Upload it to WordPress

In your dashboard go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and choose the zip.

  3. 3

    Install and activate

Click Install Now, then Activate. If an older or free copy is already installed, WordPress offers to replace it with the uploaded version.

Notes for this product

  • Install and set up AffiliateWP and its integration with your store first, then activate this add-on.

Setup: using AffiliateWP Allowed Products Addon 1.3

  1. Check AffiliateWP works. Confirm referrals are already being recorded for your store integration.
  2. Activate Allowed Products. Upload and activate the add-on.
  3. Select the allowed products. Choose the products that should earn commission in the add-on's settings.
  4. Test a referral. Place a test order through an affiliate link for an allowed and a non-allowed product, and check the Referrals screen.

Common problems and fixes

“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
Why it happens
The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
How to fix it
Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
Why it happens
The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
How to fix it
Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
Why it happens
Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
How to fix it
Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
Why it happens
The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
How to fix it
Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work without AffiliateWP?

No. It is an add-on and needs AffiliateWP installed and active.

What happens to sales of other products?

They don't generate referrals, so affiliates earn nothing on them.

Which store plugins does it support?

The listing doesn't state which; check the documentation in the package and test with your store plugin.

Will it work with the current AffiliateWP?

The file dates from June 2018, so test it on a staging site before relying on it.
