About WooCommerce PayU Payment Gateway 2.4.2

This plugin adds PayU as a payment method in WooCommerce. It is aimed at shops selling to customers in Poland: the store currency must be set to Polish złoty, and you need your own PayU merchant account. The listing says no SSL certificate is needed for the gateway itself, which suggests the customer completes payment on PayU's side rather than on your checkout page.

The file on record is version 2.4.2 and dates from October 2017. PayU's API and WooCommerce checkout have both changed since then, and the newer block-based checkout may not show older gateways. Install it on a staging site, run test payments in PayU's sandbox, and only then switch to live payments.

Requirements

  • WooCommerce
  • A PayU merchant account
  • Store currency set to Polish złoty

Notes for this product

  • Set the WooCommerce currency to Polish złoty before enabling the gateway. If your store uses the block-based checkout and PayU doesn't appear, test with the classic checkout.

Setup: using WooCommerce PayU Payment Gateway 2.4.2

  1. Set the store currency. In WooCommerce, Settings, General, set the currency to Polish złoty.
  2. Get your PayU credentials. Log in to your PayU merchant panel and note the keys or IDs for your shop, including the sandbox ones.
  3. Enable PayU in WooCommerce. Go to WooCommerce, Settings, Payments, enable PayU and enter your credentials.
  4. Run sandbox payments. Place test orders in sandbox mode and check that order statuses update after payment.
  5. Switch to live. Enter your live credentials, place one small real order and refund it.

Common problems and fixes

PayU doesn't appear at checkout
Why it happens
The store currency isn't Polish złoty, or the checkout block doesn't support this older gateway.
How to fix it
Set the currency to Polish złoty and test with the classic checkout page.
Orders stay pending after the customer pays
Why it happens
PayU's payment notification isn't reaching your site, often because of a wrong key or a firewall blocking it.
How to fix it
Recheck the credentials, make sure your site is reachable from outside, and compare the transaction in the PayU panel.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
Why it happens
The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
How to fix it
Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
Why it happens
The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
How to fix it
Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
Why it happens
Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
How to fix it
Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
Why it happens
The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
How to fix it
Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a PayU account?

Yes. You need your own PayU merchant account, and you enter its credentials in the plugin settings.

Does it work with currencies other than Polish złoty?

The listing says the store currency must be Polish złoty, so plan on that.

Do I need an SSL certificate?

The listing says the gateway doesn't need one. Your shop should still use HTTPS for logins and customer data.

Will it work with the current WooCommerce checkout?

The file dates from October 2017, so test it in sandbox mode on a staging site. If it doesn't show in the block checkout, use the classic checkout.
