About Sensei LMS WordPress Plugin 3.10.0

Sensei LMS is a learning management plugin for WordPress, built by the team behind WooCommerce. It adds courses, lessons and quizzes as content you write in the block editor, enrols learners, and tracks which lessons they have completed and how they scored. It works inside your existing theme, so it is not a separate WordPress theme despite some searches for one.

Sensei handles creating and publishing courses. To sell access, you pair it with WooCommerce through Sensei's paid-courses extension, or with a membership plugin. The file on record is version 3.10.0, and the listing dates from April 2018, so test it with your current WordPress and theme on a staging site first.

Key features

Courses and lessons
Build courses from ordered lessons, with modules to group lessons into sections.
Quizzes
Attach quizzes to lessons, with several question types, pass marks and automatic or manual grading.
Learner progress
Learners see their progress, and you can see who is enrolled and how far each person has got.
Block editor content
Course and lesson pages are written in the WordPress block editor, with Sensei blocks for course outlines and buttons.
Learner management
Enrol or remove learners and reset their progress from the admin.
Sell access with add-ons
Combine it with WooCommerce through the paid-courses extension, or with a membership plugin, to charge for courses.

Is it right for you?

A good fit for

  • WordPress sites that want to publish structured courses with quizzes
  • WooCommerce stores that plan to sell courses alongside products

Look elsewhere if

  • Anyone expecting built-in course sales without WooCommerce or a membership plugin

How to install Sensei LMS WordPress Plugin 3.10.0

  1. 1

    Download the file

Open My Account → Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.

  2. 2

    Upload it to WordPress

In your dashboard go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and choose the zip.

  3. 3

    Install and activate

Click Install Now, then Activate. If an older or free copy is already installed, WordPress offers to replace it with the uploaded version.

Notes for this product

  • Selling courses is not part of this plugin alone. Add WooCommerce with Sensei's paid-courses extension, or a membership plugin, if you need paid access.

Setup: using Sensei LMS WordPress Plugin 3.10.0

  1. Activate and run the setup wizard. Activate Sensei LMS and follow its setup wizard to create the course and learner pages.
  2. Create a course. Add a new course, write its description and set its outline of modules and lessons.
  3. Write lessons and a quiz. Fill in each lesson, then add a quiz with questions and a pass mark where you need one.
  4. Enrol a test learner. Sign in as a test user, take the course and check that progress and quiz results are recorded.
  5. Add selling if you need it. Connect WooCommerce and the paid-courses extension, or a membership plugin, to restrict access to buyers.

Common problems and fixes

Course or lesson pages show a 404 error
Why it happens
WordPress permalink rules weren't refreshed after Sensei registered its content types.
How to fix it
Go to Settings, Permalinks and click Save Changes without changing anything.
Learners don't see the quiz on a lesson
Why it happens
The quiz has no questions, or the learner isn't enrolled in the course.
How to fix it
Add questions to the lesson's quiz and confirm the learner is enrolled.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
Why it happens
The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
How to fix it
Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
Why it happens
The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
How to fix it
Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
Why it happens
Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
How to fix it
Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
Why it happens
The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
How to fix it
Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.
