About Scrapes 2.1.0
Scrapes is a web scraping plugin for WordPress by Octolooks. You create a task that points to a web page, a list of pages or a feed, choose which parts to collect with a visual selector, and Scrapes turns them into posts on your site. Tasks can run on a schedule, so new items keep arriving without manual copying.
Scraping someone else's content raises legal and ethical issues. Respect each site's terms and copyright, and only collect what you have the right to reuse. The file on record is version 2.1.0 and dates from September 2020, so test tasks on a staging site with your current WordPress and PHP versions.
Key features
- Single, serial and feed tasks
- Scrape one page, a list of pages, or items from a feed.
- Visual selector
- Pick the title, content, image and other fields by clicking on the source page.
- Scheduled runs
- Tasks run automatically on a schedule using WordPress cron.
- Post and custom post types
- Save results as posts or other post types, with categories and tags.
- Featured images and custom fields
- Import images as featured images and map extra data to custom fields.
- WooCommerce products
- Map scraped data to WooCommerce product fields such as price.
Is it right for you?
A good fit for
- Site owners aggregating content they have permission to republish
- Collecting your own data from another site into WordPress
Look elsewhere if
- Copying other sites' content without permission
- Sites behind logins or heavy JavaScript rendering that a simple scraper may not read
How to install Scrapes 2.1.0
- 1
Download the file
Open My Account → Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.
- 2
Upload it to WordPress
In your dashboard go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and choose the zip.
- 3
Install and activate
Click Install Now, then Activate. If an older or free copy is already installed, WordPress offers to replace it with the uploaded version.
Notes for this product
- Scheduled tasks rely on WordPress cron, which only runs when the site gets visits. On low-traffic sites, set up a real server cron job.
Setup: using Scrapes 2.1.0
- Activate the plugin. Install and activate Scrapes, then open its menu in the dashboard.
- Create a task. Add a new scrape and choose single, serial or feed type.
- Select fields. Use the visual selector to mark the title, content and image on the source page.
- Set post options and schedule. Choose the post type, status, categories and how often the task runs.
- Run a test. Run the task once with posts saved as drafts and review the results.
Common problems and fixes
Scheduled tasks don't run on time
- Why it happens
- WordPress cron only fires when someone visits the site.
- How to fix it
- Disable the built-in cron trigger and call wp-cron.php from a server cron job.
A task stops returning content
- Why it happens
- The source site changed its page layout, so the saved selectors no longer match.
- How to fix it
- Open the task and pick the fields again with the visual selector.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
- Why it happens
- The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
- How to fix it
- Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
- Why it happens
- The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
- How to fix it
- Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
- Why it happens
- Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
- How to fix it
- Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
- Why it happens
- The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
- How to fix it
- Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.

| Soflyy WP All Import Pro Premium 4.8.5 | your content comes as a CSV, XML or JSON file and you need precise field mapping rather than scraping. | $4.25 |
Frequently asked questions
Is scraping legal?
