About Paid Memberships Pro – Import Users from CSV Add On .3.4

This is an add-on for Paid Memberships Pro. It lets you import users from a CSV file, which is useful when you move members from another site or system into a PMPro membership site. It is not a standalone plugin and does nothing without PMPro installed.

Importing from a spreadsheet saves creating accounts one by one. The listing gives no detail about supported columns, so open the add-on's documentation and a sample file before you prepare your own data. Matching your column names to what the add-on expects is the main job.

The file on record dates from November 2018. Test it with your current WordPress, PHP and Paid Memberships Pro versions on a staging copy, and never run a first import on your live member list.

Requirements

  • Paid Memberships Pro

Key features

CSV user import
Brings users in from a CSV file instead of adding them by hand.
Built for Paid Memberships Pro
Works alongside PMPro, which handles the membership levels and checkout.
Bulk migration
Suited to moving a whole member list from another platform in one go.
Add-on, not a replacement
Adds one task to PMPro and leaves your existing levels and settings in place.
Membership category
Filed with membership plugins in the store.

Is it right for you?

A good fit for

  • Site owners moving members from another membership system to PMPro
  • Agencies that set up PMPro sites and need to load existing customer lists

Look elsewhere if

  • Sites that don't use Paid Memberships Pro
  • WooCommerce membership plugins, which are a different product despite the search term

How to install Paid Memberships Pro – Import Users from CSV Add On .3.4

  1. 1

    Download the file

Open My Account → Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.

  2. 2

    Upload it to WordPress

In your dashboard go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and choose the zip.

  3. 3

    Install and activate

Click Install Now, then Activate. If an older or free copy is already installed, WordPress offers to replace it with the uploaded version.

Notes for this product

  • Install and activate Paid Memberships Pro first and create your membership levels, because imported users need levels to be assigned to.

Setup: using Paid Memberships Pro – Import Users from CSV Add On .3.4

  1. Back up the site. Take a full backup of the database before importing any users.
  2. Set up your levels in PMPro. Create the membership levels you plan to assign during the import.
  3. Prepare the CSV. Build the file with the columns the add-on's documentation asks for, and start with a handful of test rows.
  4. Run a test import. Import the small file on a staging site and check the users and their levels.
  5. Import the full list. Once the test looks right, import the full file and spot-check several accounts.

Common problems and fixes

Imported users get no membership level
Why it happens
The level column in the CSV doesn't match an existing PMPro level.
How to fix it
Create the level in PMPro first and make the CSV value match what the add-on expects.
The import stops or only partly finishes on a large file
Why it happens
The server's time or memory limits are reached.
How to fix it
Split the CSV into smaller files and import them one after another.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
Why it happens
The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
How to fix it
Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
Why it happens
The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
How to fix it
Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
Why it happens
Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
How to fix it
Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
Why it happens
The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
How to fix it
Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.
