About Paid Memberships Pro – BuddyPress Add On 1.2.6
This add-on connects Paid Memberships Pro with BuddyPress so you can charge for access to a community. You decide which membership levels can use BuddyPress features such as groups, private messages, the member directory and profiles, and visitors without the right level are sent to your membership checkout. It is a common answer to searches for a BuddyPress paid membership plugin.
It can also add members to BuddyPress groups and member types based on their level, and show the level on profiles. The file on record is version 1.2.6, dated November 2018, so test it with your current WordPress, BuddyPress and Paid Memberships Pro versions on staging first.

How to install Paid Memberships Pro – BuddyPress Add On 1.2.6

- Set up the parent plugins. Activate Paid Memberships Pro and BuddyPress, and create your membership levels.
- Activate the add-on. Install and activate the BuddyPress Add On.

- Set access per level. Edit each membership level and choose its BuddyPress groups, messaging and directory access.
- Test with a test member. Sign up a test account at each level and check what it can and can't see.
Common problems and fixes
Non-members can still see restricted BuddyPress pages
- Why it happens
- A page cache is serving logged-in content, or the non-member settings were left open.
- How to fix it
- Exclude BuddyPress pages from caching and check the add-on's non-member settings.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
- Why it happens
- The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
- How to fix it
- Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
- Why it happens
- The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
- How to fix it
- Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
- Why it happens
- Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
- How to fix it
- Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
- Why it happens
- The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
- How to fix it
- Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Paid Memberships Pro and BuddyPress?
Yes. Both must be installed and active. The add-on only links the two.
Can I make some groups free and others paid?
You control group access by membership level, and you can add members to chosen groups automatically when they join a level.
Does it handle payments?
No. Paid Memberships Pro handles levels and payments. This add-on decides what each level can do in BuddyPress.
Does it work with BuddyBoss?
BuddyBoss Platform is built on BuddyPress, so many setups use it. Test the specific features you need on staging first.
