About Modula FREE 2.5.4

Modula is a WordPress plugin for building image galleries. You create a gallery in the admin, upload and arrange images, choose a grid layout, and place the gallery on a page with a shortcode or block. People often search for it as Modula WP or Modula WordPress.

The file on record is version 2.5.4, released in September 2021, and the package is about 1.89 megabytes. The title's version and the slug's version differ, so go by the version on file. This is the base edition; paid extensions such as Modula PRO are separate files. Test on a staging site with your current WordPress.

Key features

Gallery builder
Create galleries in the admin and arrange images in a grid you can customise.
Responsive grids
Galleries are meant to resize for tablets and phones.
Lightbox viewing
Visitors can open images larger from the gallery.
Shortcode and block
Place a gallery on any page or post once it is saved.
Extensions available
Add-ons such as Modula PRO, Speed Up, Watermark and Advanced Shortcodes extend it, but are separate.

Is it right for you?

A good fit for

  • Photographers and small businesses who need galleries without a page builder
  • Sites that want a dedicated gallery plugin instead of the default WordPress gallery

Look elsewhere if

  • Sites that need video, e-commerce or proofing features from a gallery plugin
  • Anyone who wants paid-extension features included in this file

How to install Modula FREE 2.5.4

  1. 1

    Download the file

Open My Account → Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.

  2. 2

    Upload it to WordPress

In your dashboard go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and choose the zip.

  3. 3

    Install and activate

Click Install Now, then Activate. If an older or free copy is already installed, WordPress offers to replace it with the uploaded version.

Notes for this product

  • This file is the base plugin. Modula PRO and the other Modula extensions are separate plugins that need this base plugin active.

Setup: using Modula FREE 2.5.4

  1. Activate the plugin. A Modula menu appears in the WordPress admin.
  2. Create a gallery. Add a new gallery, upload images and pick a layout.
  3. Adjust the grid. Set image sizes, spacing and the lightbox behaviour in the gallery settings, then save.
  4. Add it to a page. Insert the gallery with its block or shortcode and preview it on desktop and phone.

Common problems and fixes

A page shows the shortcode text or an empty space
Why it happens
The gallery was deleted, the shortcode ID doesn't match, or the shortcode sits in a block that doesn't process shortcodes.
How to fix it
Copy the shortcode again from the gallery's edit screen, or use the Modula block, and paste it into a shortcode block.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
Why it happens
The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
How to fix it
Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
Why it happens
The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
How to fix it
Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
Why it happens
Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
How to fix it
Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
Why it happens
The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
How to fix it
Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.
