About LearnDash LMS PaidMembershipsPro Integration Addon 4.0.3
This is the LearnDash add-on that connects LearnDash courses to Paid Memberships Pro membership levels. It is a small plugin with no front end of its own. Its job is to keep two systems in step: when someone gets a membership level in PMPro, they gain access to the LearnDash courses tied to that level, and when the level ends, that access goes away.
It answers the common question of how to sell LearnDash courses as a membership. LearnDash handles lessons, quizzes and progress. Paid Memberships Pro handles levels, checkout, payment gateways and recurring billing. The add-on is the bridge, so you can sell one level that unlocks a bundle of courses, or several tiers that each unlock a different set.
The file on record is version 4.0.3 and dates from April 2022. Both LearnDash and Paid Memberships Pro have changed since then, so install it on a staging copy with your current versions and run a full test signup before you rely on it for paying members.
Requirements
- LearnDash LMS
- Paid Memberships Pro
Key features
- Courses tied to membership levels
- Assign one or more LearnDash courses to a PMPro membership level.
- Enrolment on signup
- A member who checks out for a level is given access to that level's courses.
- Access removed when membership ends
- When a level is cancelled or expires, access to its linked courses is taken away.
- Tiered course bundles
- Different levels can unlock different sets of courses, which suits basic and premium tiers.
- Uses PMPro checkout and billing
- Payments, recurring billing and gateways stay in Paid Memberships Pro rather than LearnDash.
- Lightweight add-on
- The package is around 18 KB and adds the link between the two plugins, nothing more.
Is it right for you?
A good fit for
- LearnDash sites that want to sell courses as a recurring membership
- Course creators already using Paid Memberships Pro for levels and billing
- Sites offering several tiers, each unlocking a different group of courses
Look elsewhere if
- Sites that sell courses one at a time and don't need membership levels
- Anyone not running both LearnDash and Paid Memberships Pro
- Schools that use a different membership plugin, such as Restrict Content Pro

Notes for this product
- Install and activate LearnDash and Paid Memberships Pro before this add-on. It does nothing on its own.
Setup: using LearnDash LMS PaidMembershipsPro Integration Addon 4.0.3
- Install both parent plugins. Activate LearnDash and Paid Memberships Pro, then activate this add-on.
- Set up PMPro payments. In Memberships, Settings, Payment Gateway, choose your gateway and put it in test or sandbox mode.
- Create your membership levels. Add a level for each tier you plan to sell, with its price and billing period.
- Link courses to each level. Open a level or course and select which LearnDash courses belong to which level, using the fields the add-on adds.
- Run a test signup. Check out as a new user, then confirm the linked courses appear in that user's LearnDash profile.
- Test cancellation. Cancel the test membership and confirm the course access is removed before going live.
Common problems and fixes
A member pays but the course still shows as not enrolled
- Why it happens
- The course isn't linked to the level the member bought, or the add-on isn't active.
- How to fix it
- Check the level's course selection, confirm the add-on is active, then change the member's level to trigger enrolment again.
Members who joined before setup have no course access
- Why it happens
- Course links are applied when a level is given, so earlier members weren't processed.
- How to fix it
- Re-save those members' levels, or enrol them in the courses manually from their user profile.
Checkout works in test mode but fails with live payments
- Why it happens
- The PMPro gateway keys or webhook settings still point at sandbox values.
- How to fix it
- Enter the live keys in PMPro's payment settings and set up the gateway's webhook as PMPro's documentation describes.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
- Why it happens
- The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
- How to fix it
- Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
- Why it happens
- The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
- How to fix it
- Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
- Why it happens
- Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
- How to fix it
- Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
- Why it happens
- The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
- How to fix it
- Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.
