About WPForms User Registration Addon 2.4.0
WPForms User Registration Addon lets a WPForms form create WordPress user accounts. Instead of using the default WordPress registration page, you build a form with the fields you want and map them to the new user's name, email and password. It suits member sites, course sites and client portals.
It is an add-on, so it needs WPForms installed and active. The version on file is 2.4.0, dated December 2021, and the package is small, at about 85 kilobytes.
The listing doesn't state the details of the settings, so check the plugin's documentation. Creating accounts is a sensitive job, so test the form with a throwaway email address and decide which user role new sign-ups receive.
Requirements
- WPForms (the parent plugin)
Key features
- Registration from a form
- Creates a WordPress user when a WPForms form is submitted.
- Field mapping
- Map form fields to account details such as username, email and password.
- Custom sign-up forms
- Add your own questions to the sign-up form, instead of using the default registration page.
- Role assignment
- Choose which user role new accounts receive.
- Add-on for WPForms
- Installs as a plugin on top of WPForms, with settings inside each form.
Is it right for you?
A good fit for
- Membership, course and client-portal sites that want a branded sign-up form
- Sites already using WPForms that want to collect extra details at sign-up
Look elsewhere if
- Sites that don't use WPForms
- Sites needing paid memberships or content restriction, which need a membership plugin on top
How to install WPForms User Registration Addon 2.4.0
- 1
Download the file
Open My Account → Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.
- 2
Upload it to WordPress
In your dashboard go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and choose the zip.
- 3
Install and activate
Click Install Now, then Activate. If an older or free copy is already installed, WordPress offers to replace it with the uploaded version.
Notes for this product
- Install and activate WPForms first. Decide the default user role before you publish the form, so new sign-ups don't receive more access than intended.
Setup: using WPForms User Registration Addon 2.4.0
- Activate WPForms and the add-on. Make sure WPForms is active, then activate the User Registration add-on.
- Build a registration form. Create a form with name, email and password fields, plus any extra questions.
- Map fields to the user account. In the form's settings, enable user registration and map each field to its account detail.
- Pick the user role. Choose a low-privilege role for new sign-ups.
- Test with a throwaway email. Publish the form on a page, submit it with a test address and check the new user in the Users list.
Common problems and fixes
Submitting the form doesn't create a user
- Why it happens
- Registration is not enabled in the form's settings, or a required field isn't mapped.
- How to fix it
- Open the form's settings, enable user registration, and map email, username and password.
Sign-up fails because the email or username already exists
- Why it happens
- WordPress doesn't allow duplicate usernames or emails.
- How to fix it
- Use a new test address, or let people log in or reset their password instead.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
- Why it happens
- The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
- How to fix it
- Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
- Why it happens
- The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
- How to fix it
- Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
- Why it happens
- Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
- How to fix it
- Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
- Why it happens
- The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
- How to fix it
- Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.
Frequently asked questions
Does it need WPForms?
Yes. It is an add-on and does nothing without WPForms.
Which version is this?
The version on file is 2.4.0, dated December 2021.
Does it handle paid memberships?
No. It creates user accounts from a form. Paid access and content restriction need a membership plugin.
Which role do new users get?
You choose it in the form settings. Pick the lowest role that does the job.
