About WooThumbs for WooCommerce – Iconic 4.8.9

WooThumbs is an Iconic plugin that replaces WooCommerce's standard product image gallery. Visitors get a slider with thumbnails, zoom and a lightbox, and the images change when they pick a product variation, such as a colour. People search for it to make product pages look more polished.

It is a WooCommerce extension, so WooCommerce must be active. It works on the single product page and is mostly configured through its settings and each product's image fields. The version on file is 4.8.9, and the file on record dates from August 2021.

Because WooCommerce's product page markup has changed over the years, test the plugin with your current WooCommerce and theme on a staging site first. Themes that already customise the gallery can clash with it.

Requirements

  • WooCommerce

Key features

Image slider with thumbnails
Replaces the default gallery with a slider and a row of thumbnails.
Zoom and lightbox
Lets shoppers zoom on the image and open it larger.
Variation images
Switches the gallery images when a shopper chooses a variation.
Per-variation galleries
Lets you set images for each variation, not just one image.
Responsive gallery
Aims to give a gallery that works on phones as well as desktops.

Is it right for you?

A good fit for

  • WooCommerce stores with variable products such as clothing in several colours
  • Shops that want zoom and a better gallery without changing theme

Look elsewhere if

  • Stores whose theme already has its own gallery and zoom features, where two galleries may clash
  • Sites that don't use WooCommerce

How to install WooThumbs for WooCommerce – Iconic 4.8.9

  1. 1

    Download the file

Open My Account → Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.

  2. 2

    Upload it to WordPress

In your dashboard go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and choose the zip.

  3. 3

    Install and activate

Click Install Now, then Activate. If an older or free copy is already installed, WordPress offers to replace it with the uploaded version.

Notes for this product

  • If your theme has its own product gallery, disable the theme's gallery or zoom first, so only one gallery loads.

Setup: using WooThumbs for WooCommerce – Iconic 4.8.9

  1. Activate the plugin. Activate WooThumbs with WooCommerce active, and open its settings page.
  2. Choose gallery options. Set the slider, thumbnails, zoom and lightbox options to suit your store.
  3. Add variation images. On a variable product, upload images for each variation in the Variations tab.
  4. Check the product page. View a product on the front end, pick each variation and check the gallery changes.
  5. Test on a phone. Check swiping, zoom and layout on a phone.

Common problems and fixes

The default gallery still shows, or two galleries appear
Why it happens
The theme or another plugin replaces the product gallery too.
How to fix it
Turn off the theme's gallery or zoom option, or test with a default theme to find the clash.
Images don't change when a variation is picked
Why it happens
The variation has no image of its own, or JavaScript from another plugin is failing.
How to fix it
Add an image to each variation, then check the browser console for script errors.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
Why it happens
The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
How to fix it
Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
Why it happens
The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
How to fix it
Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
Why it happens
Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
How to fix it
Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
Why it happens
The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
How to fix it
Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.
