About WooCommerce Serial Numbers WordPress Plugin 1.25
WooCommerce Serial Numbers lets you attach serial numbers to products and hand them out with orders. It suits anything that needs a unique code per sale: software licence keys, gift or voucher codes, ticket numbers or activation keys. You load the numbers in, and the plugin assigns them as orders come through.
You can add numbers by hand, import them from a CSV file, or generate them from a pattern, for example SERIAL##-#, which produces numbers either randomly or in sequence. They can be assigned to an order automatically when it is paid, set by hand on the product page, or chosen by the customer. Variable products are supported, with serial numbers per variation.
Reports show which customers hold which numbers, which orders used which numbers, and what stock remains, and each can be exported to CSV. The label is flexible: you can rename Serial Numbers to Ticket Numbers or Licence Numbers. The file on record dates from May 2018, so test it with your current WooCommerce version on a staging site first.

Install and activate
Click Install Now, then Activate. If an older or free copy is already installed, WordPress offers to replace it with the uploaded version.
Setup: using WooCommerce Serial Numbers WordPress Plugin 1.25
- Open the plugin's menu. After activating, find the serial numbers settings in your dashboard menu.
- Add serial numbers to a product. Open the product, then add numbers by hand, import them from a CSV or generate them from a pattern.

Common problems and fixes
A paid order didn't get a serial number
- Why it happens
- The order hasn't reached the status that triggers assignment, or the product has run out of numbers.
- How to fix it
- Check the order status, mark orders for virtual products as paid or completed, and add more numbers to the product.
The CSV import fails or imports nothing
- Why it happens
- The file isn't in the format the plugin expects, or has the wrong encoding.
- How to fix it
- Use one number per row, save the file as plain CSV with UTF-8 encoding, and try a small test file first.
Generated numbers don't follow your pattern
- Why it happens
- The pattern syntax isn't what the plugin expects.
- How to fix it
- Follow the plugin's pattern format exactly, such as SERIAL##-#, and generate a few numbers to check before generating a large batch.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
- Why it happens
- The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
- How to fix it
- Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
- Why it happens
- The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
- How to fix it
- Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
- Why it happens
- Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
- How to fix it
- Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
- Why it happens
- The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
- How to fix it
- Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.
