About UberMenu – WordPress Mega Menu Plugin 3.7.7

UberMenu is a mega menu plugin for WordPress. A mega menu is a large dropdown panel with several columns, instead of a thin list of links. It suits sites with many pages or products, where visitors need to see a lot of options at once. UberMenu is user-friendly and highly customisable, and it works with the normal WordPress menu system.

That last point makes it easy to start with: you build your menu in Appearance, Menus as usual, then turn on UberMenu and configure the extra options. It can produce mega or flyout submenus, and it has a column grid system for laying out advanced submenus. It is fully responsive and works on touch devices, including iPhone, iPad and Android.

The file is from February 2022, and a menu is a core part of a site, so test it on a staging copy with your theme before using it live. Mega menus also need careful design on phones, where large panels can turn into long, hard-to-use lists.

Is it right for you?

A good fit for

  • Sites with many pages, categories or products that need a large navigation panel
  • Online shops that want to show product categories in a mega menu
  • Designers who want more control over menu layout than the theme offers

Look elsewhere if

  • Small sites with a handful of pages, where a simple menu is better
  • Sites where the theme already includes a mega menu builder
  • Anyone who doesn't want to test the menu carefully on phones

How to install UberMenu – WordPress Mega Menu Plugin 3.7.7

  1. 1

    Download the file

Open My Account → Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.

  2. 2

    Upload it to WordPress

In your dashboard go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and choose the zip.

Click Install Now, then Activate. If an older or free copy is already installed, WordPress offers to replace it with the uploaded version.

Notes for this product

  • UberMenu attaches to a theme menu location. Your theme needs to use WordPress's standard menu system so the plugin can take over the menu.

Setup: using UberMenu – WordPress Mega Menu Plugin 3.7.7

  1. Build your menu. Create your menu in Appearance, Menus and assign it to the theme's menu location.
  2. Turn on UberMenu for that location. Open the UberMenu settings and enable it for the menu location you use.
  3. Choose mega or flyout for each item. Edit a top-level item in the menu editor and pick how its submenu should open.
  4. Lay out columns. Use the column grid to arrange the submenu's links and any extra content.
  5. Style the menu. Set colours, fonts and spacing from the plugin's settings to match your theme.
  6. Test on touch devices. Open the menu on a phone and a tablet and fix anything that's hard to tap.

Common problems and fixes

The mega menu doesn't appear, and the normal menu shows
Why it happens
UberMenu isn't enabled for the menu location the theme uses, or the theme doesn't call the menu in the standard way.
How to fix it
Enable UberMenu for the correct location in its settings, and check the theme's documentation for how it registers menu locations.
The menu looks broken or unstyled
Why it happens
The theme's CSS conflicts with the plugin's, or an optimisation plugin is minifying or combining its styles.
How to fix it
Exclude the plugin's styles and scripts from combining and minifying, clear caches, and test with a default theme to isolate the conflict.
Submenus won't open on a phone
Why it happens
The mobile behaviour is set to hover, or a script is blocking taps.
How to fix it
Set the submenu to open on click or tap in the settings, and test on a real device.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
Why it happens
The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
How to fix it
Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
Why it happens
The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
How to fix it
Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
Why it happens
Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
How to fix it
Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
Why it happens
The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
How to fix it
Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.
