About StudioPress Gallery Pro Genesis WordPress Theme 1.2.0

Gallery Pro is one of the StudioPress child themes for the Genesis Framework. It is aimed at people whose work is visual, such as artists, galleries and photographers, and gives them a simple, image-led layout. Like every StudioPress child theme, it is not a stand-alone theme: Genesis provides the engine, and Gallery Pro supplies the design on top.

In practice you build the home page from widget areas and the Customizer rather than a page builder, which keeps the site light and easy to maintain. The store also files it under WooCommerce and blog categories, so it can carry a small shop or a journal next to your portfolio. The file on record is version 1.2 and dates from November 2017, so test it with your current WordPress and PHP on a staging site first.

Requirements

  • Genesis Framework (parent theme)

Key features

Genesis child theme
Runs on top of the Genesis Framework, which handles the core markup, layouts and settings.
Image-led design
Made for showing artwork and photography with plenty of space around each image.
Widget-built home page
The front page is assembled from widget areas, so you arrange sections without writing code.
Customizer options
Logo, colours and other visual settings are changed in the WordPress Customizer.
Blog support
Standard Genesis blog and archive templates let you publish news, exhibitions or a journal.
Shop-ready layout
Filed under WooCommerce, so a small print or artwork shop can sit inside the same design.

Is it right for you?

A good fit for

  • Artists, galleries and photographers who want a portfolio-style site
  • Existing Genesis users who want another StudioPress design
  • Creatives who prefer widgets and the Customizer to a heavy page builder

Look elsewhere if

  • Anyone who doesn't want to install the Genesis Framework, since this theme can't run without it
  • Sites that need a drag-and-drop builder for every page

How to install StudioPress Gallery Pro Genesis WordPress Theme 1.2.0

  1. 1

    Download the file

Open My Account β†’ Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.

  2. 2

    Find the installable theme zip

Theme packages often bundle the theme, a child theme, plugins and docs. The installable theme is the zip that has style.css at its top level.

  3. 3

    Upload it to WordPress

Go to Appearance β†’ Themes β†’ Add New Theme β†’ Upload Theme, choose the theme zip, then Install Now and Activate.

  4. 4

    Install the recommended plugins

Most premium themes show a notice listing their required plugins. Install those before importing any demo content.

Notes for this product

  • Install the Genesis Framework first. Upload Gallery Pro as a second theme and activate Gallery Pro, not Genesis; Genesis must stay installed as the parent.

Getting started: using StudioPress Gallery Pro Genesis WordPress Theme 1.2.0

  1. Install Genesis, then Gallery Pro. Upload the Genesis Framework, then upload and activate Gallery Pro.
  2. Read the setup notes in the package. StudioPress themes document which widgets go in which home page area and the image sizes to use.
  3. Build the front page. In Appearance, Widgets, fill the front page widget areas with your text, images and featured content.
  4. Set logo, colours and menus. Use the Customizer for the logo and colours, and assign your menu under Appearance, Menus.
  5. Add your work. Upload images at the recommended sizes and create your gallery pages and posts.

Common problems and fixes

Activating the theme shows a missing parent theme error
Why it happens
Gallery Pro is a child theme and Genesis isn't installed.
How to fix it
Install the Genesis Framework, keep it installed, and activate Gallery Pro again.
The front page shows only a list of blog posts
Why it happens
The front page widget areas are empty, so Genesis falls back to the post loop.
How to fix it
Add widgets to the front page areas in Appearance, Widgets.
Featured images look blurry or oddly cropped
Why it happens
Images were uploaded before the theme registered its image sizes.
How to fix it
Regenerate thumbnails with a thumbnail regeneration plugin, or re-upload the images.
β€œThe package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.”
Why it happens
The full download package was uploaded instead of the theme zip inside it.
How to fix it
Unzip the package and upload the zip that contains style.css at its top level.
β€œThe link you followed has expired.” when uploading
Why it happens
The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
How to fix it
Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/themes with your host's file manager or SFTP.
Demo import stops part-way or times out
Why it happens
The server hits its execution-time or memory limit during the import.
How to fix it
Raise max_execution_time and memory_limit with your host, then re-run the importer; importing content, widgets and settings separately also helps.
Pages look broken right after activating
Why it happens
The theme's required plugins (page builder, theme core plugin) aren't installed yet.
How to fix it
Install and activate everything in the theme's required-plugins notice, then reload.
