About Paid Memberships Pro – MailChimp Add On 2.2

This is an add-on for Paid Memberships Pro that connects your membership site to Mailchimp. Its purpose is to add members to Mailchimp lists as they join, so you can email them from Mailchimp. It is filed under membership, add-on and WordPress plugins categories.

It needs the Paid Memberships Pro plugin and a Mailchimp account. The file on record is version 2.2 from November 2018. Mailchimp has changed its terminology and interface since then (lists are now called audiences), so test it on staging with a test member first.

Requirements

  • Paid Memberships Pro
  • A Mailchimp account

Key features

Mailchimp connection
Links your membership site to a Mailchimp account.
Member list syncing
Sends new members to your Mailchimp list.
Built for PMPro
A Paid Memberships Pro add-on, so settings sit with your membership settings.
Mailing list growth
Turns sign-ups into a Mailchimp audience without manual exports.

Is it right for you?

A good fit for

  • Membership sites on PMPro that email members through Mailchimp
  • Site owners who want sign-ups added to a list automatically

Look elsewhere if

  • Sites that don't use Paid Memberships Pro
  • Sites using another email provider

How to install Paid Memberships Pro – MailChimp Add On 2.2

  1. 1

    Download the file

Open My Account → Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.

  2. 2

    Upload it to WordPress

In your dashboard go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and choose the zip.

  3. 3

    Install and activate

Click Install Now, then Activate. If an older or free copy is already installed, WordPress offers to replace it with the uploaded version.

Notes for this product

  • Install Paid Memberships Pro first. You also need a Mailchimp API key from your Mailchimp account.

Setup: using Paid Memberships Pro – MailChimp Add On 2.2

  1. Install Paid Memberships Pro. Set up the parent plugin and your levels first.
  2. Install and activate the add-on. Upload it on the Plugins screen.
  3. Enter your Mailchimp API key. Create a key in Mailchimp and add it in the add-on's settings, among the Memberships settings.
  4. Choose lists and test. Pick the list or audience to use, then register a test member and check Mailchimp.

Common problems and fixes

Members don't appear in Mailchimp
Why it happens
The API key is wrong, the wrong list is selected, or double opt-in leaves new contacts as pending.
How to fix it
Re-enter the key, confirm the list, and look for pending contacts in Mailchimp.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
Why it happens
The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
How to fix it
Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
Why it happens
The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
How to fix it
Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
Why it happens
Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
How to fix it
Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
Why it happens
The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
How to fix it
Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need Paid Memberships Pro?

Yes. It is an add-on and won't work without it.

Do I need a Mailchimp account?

Yes, plus an API key from that account.

Will it work with current Mailchimp?

The file dates from November 2018, so test with a new member on staging first.
