About MTDb – Ultimate Movie&TV Database 3.1.3

MTDb is a standalone PHP web application for building a movie and TV database site, similar in spirit to IMDb. It stores titles, seasons, episodes and people in its own database, imports their details from TMDb, and gives visitors pages for each title and person, search, ratings, reviews, trailers and personal lists. You manage it from its own admin panel.

Older listings call it a WordPress plugin, but it is not one. It installs on its own domain or subdomain with its own database and installer. Title data comes from the TMDb API, so you need your own TMDb API key and must follow TMDb's terms. The file on record is version 3.1.3 and dates from September 2020, so test it on your current PHP setup first.

Notes for this product

This is a standalone app, not a WordPress plugin. Install it on its own domain or subdomain.
If the documentation asks for a cron job for scheduled tasks, add it after installing.

Setup: using MTDb – Ultimate Movie&TV Database 3.1.3

Create a database. Create an empty MySQL database and user in your hosting panel.
Upload and run the installer. Upload the files, open the site in a browser and follow the installer to connect the database and create the admin account.
Add your TMDb API key. Get an API key from your TMDb account and enter it in the admin settings.
Import some titles. Import a few movies and series to check that posters, cast and details come through.
Set up pages and branding. Add your logo, menus and site pages, then check title pages on a phone.

Common problems and fixes

Imports fail or titles appear without details

Why it happens: The TMDb API key is missing, invalid or not yet approved.
How to fix it: Check the key in your TMDb account settings and enter it again in the admin panel.

A blank page or server error appears after upload

Why it happens: The server can't write to the app's storage or cache folders, or PHP extensions it needs are missing.
How to fix it: Make the storage folders writable and compare your PHP extensions with the list in the documentation.
