About LearnDash LMS EDD Integration Addon 1.4.0
This is an add-on for LearnDash that connects it to Easy Digital Downloads, the WordPress plugin for selling digital products. The idea is that a course is sold as an EDD product and, once the order completes, the buyer gets access to the course.
It is a small plugin, around 8 KB, and it does nothing on its own. Both LearnDash and Easy Digital Downloads must be installed and active. The file on record is version 1.4.0 from October 2019, so test it with your current LearnDash and EDD versions on a staging site before selling real courses.
Requirements
- LearnDash LMS
- Easy Digital Downloads
Key features
- LearnDash and EDD link
- Connects LearnDash courses with Easy Digital Downloads products.
- Sell courses through EDD
- Lets EDD handle the cart, checkout and payment for a course.
- Small add-on
- A very small plugin file that relies on the two plugins it connects.
- Official add-on
- Listed under the LearnDash developer name.
Is it right for you?
A good fit for
- Sites already selling digital downloads with EDD that want to add LearnDash courses
- Course creators who prefer EDD checkout over LearnDash's own payment options
Look elsewhere if
- Sites that don't use both LearnDash and Easy Digital Downloads
- Shops built on WooCommerce, which needs a different integration
How to install LearnDash LMS EDD Integration Addon 1.4.0
- 1
Download the file
Open My Account → Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.
- 2
Upload it to WordPress
In your dashboard go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and choose the zip.
- 3
Install and activate
Click Install Now, then Activate. If an older or free copy is already installed, WordPress offers to replace it with the uploaded version.
Notes for this product
- Install and activate LearnDash and Easy Digital Downloads first. This add-on only links them, so it has no settings or content of its own beyond that link.
Setup: using LearnDash LMS EDD Integration Addon 1.4.0
- Activate both parent plugins. Make sure LearnDash and Easy Digital Downloads are installed and working.
- Activate the add-on. Activate the integration and check the package documentation for any settings.
- Link a course to a download. Create or edit an EDD download and connect it to the LearnDash course it should grant.
- Test a purchase. Place a test order and confirm the buyer is enrolled once the payment completes.
Common problems and fixes
A buyer paid but did not get course access
- Why it happens
- The EDD download isn't linked to the course, or the order stayed pending.
- How to fix it
- Check the download's course link and the order status, then re-run a test purchase.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
- Why it happens
- The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
- How to fix it
- Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
- Why it happens
- The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
- How to fix it
- Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
- Why it happens
- Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
- How to fix it
- Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
- Why it happens
- The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
- How to fix it
- Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work without LearnDash?
No. It is an add-on, so LearnDash must be installed and active.
Do I also need Easy Digital Downloads?
Yes. EDD provides the products, cart and checkout the add-on connects to.
Will it work with the current versions of both plugins?
The file on record is version 1.4.0 from October 2019. Test it on a staging copy first.
