About Learn – Education, eLearning WordPress Theme 1.0.9

Learn is a WordPress theme for online course sites. It pairs with the Sensei plugin, which provides the courses, lessons, quizzes and questions, and with WooCommerce for selling paid courses. The theme supplies the look: four home page styles, theme options for colours and fonts, and one-click demo import.

It bundles the Visual Composer page builder (now called WPBakery) and Revolution Slider, and is listed as compatible with The Events Calendar, Contact Form 7 and WPML. It was built when WordPress 4.8 was current, and the file on record is version 1.0.9 from September 2017. Sensei, WooCommerce and WordPress have all changed a lot since, so test it on a staging site before you build on it.

How to install Learn – Education, eLearning WordPress Theme 1.0.9

  1. 1

    Download the file

Open My Account → Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.

  2. 2

    Find the installable theme zip

Theme packages often bundle the theme, a child theme, plugins and docs. The installable theme is the zip that has style.css at its top level.

  3. 3

    Upload it to WordPress

Go to Appearance → Themes → Add New Theme → Upload Theme, choose the theme zip, then Install Now and Activate.

  4. 4

    Install the recommended plugins

Most premium themes show a notice listing their required plugins. Install those before importing any demo content.

Notes for this product

  • After activating, install the bundled Visual Composer and Revolution Slider plus Sensei from the plugins notice before importing the demo. Use the child theme for any code changes.

Getting started: using Learn – Education, eLearning WordPress Theme 1.0.9

  1. Test on staging first. Because the file is from 2017, install it on a staging copy with your current WordPress and PHP.
  2. Install required plugins. Activate the theme and install Sensei, the page builder, the slider and WooCommerce if you sell courses.
  3. Import the demo. Run the one-click import and pick the home page style you want.
  4. Create a course. In Sensei, add a course with a lesson and a quiz, and link it to a product if it is paid.
  5. Test enrolment. Enrol as a test student, take the quiz and check progress on a phone.

Common problems and fixes

Course or lesson pages look unstyled or broken
Why it happens
Current Sensei releases have changed their templates since the theme was built in 2017.
How to fix it
Test with your Sensei version on staging, and override the affected templates in a child theme if needed.
“The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.”
Why it happens
The full download package was uploaded instead of the theme zip inside it.
How to fix it
Unzip the package and upload the zip that contains style.css at its top level.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
Why it happens
The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
How to fix it
Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/themes with your host's file manager or SFTP.
Demo import stops part-way or times out
Why it happens
The server hits its execution-time or memory limit during the import.
How to fix it
Raise max_execution_time and memory_limit with your host, then re-run the importer; importing content, widgets and settings separately also helps.
Pages look broken right after activating
Why it happens
The theme's required plugins (page builder, theme core plugin) aren't installed yet.
How to fix it
Install and activate everything in the theme's required-plugins notice, then reload.
