About Elegant Themes Origin WordPress Theme 2.4.14

Origin is a WordPress theme from Elegant Themes. The description calls it a grid-based theme that tells a story through imagery, filling the screen with your photos. It is also described as responsive, so it works on phones. The store files it under premium themes, portfolio and blog categories.

That makes it a fit for photographers and visual portfolios. The listing gives no demos or option list beyond that. The file on record is version 2.4.14 and dates from August 2017, so test it with your current WordPress and PHP versions on a staging site before use.

Key features

Grid-based layout: Photos fill the screen in a grid.
Image-led storytelling: The theme leans on large photos to carry the design.
Responsive design: Described as responsive, so it works on mobile devices.
Portfolio and blog use: Filed under portfolio and blog news categories.

Is it right for you?

A good fit for

Photographers and visual artists who want a photo-first grid
Image-heavy blogs and portfolios

Look elsewhere if

Text-heavy sites where large images aren't the main content
Online shops, since the listing doesn't mention e-commerce features

How to install Elegant Themes Origin WordPress Theme 2.4.14

1
Download the file
Open My Account → Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.
2
Find the installable theme zip
Theme packages often bundle the theme, a child theme, plugins and docs. The installable theme is the zip that has style.css at its top level.
3
Upload it to WordPress
Go to Appearance → Themes → Add New Theme → Upload Theme, choose the theme zip, then Install Now and Activate.
4
Install the recommended plugins
Most premium themes show a notice listing their required plugins. Install those before importing any demo content.

Getting started: using Elegant Themes Origin WordPress Theme 2.4.14

Back up and use staging. The file dates from 2017, so test it on a copy.
Activate the theme. Look for its options panel and the documentation in the package.
Prepare your photos. Use large, well-compressed images so the grid looks sharp and loads quickly.
Create posts or portfolio items. Add your content and set featured images for the grid.
Check phones. Test the grid and menu on a real mobile device.

Common problems and fixes

The grid shows blank or cropped thumbnails

Why it happens: Posts have no featured image, or old thumbnails use a different size.
How to fix it: Set a featured image on each post, then regenerate thumbnails with a plugin.

“The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.”

Why it happens: The full download package was uploaded instead of the theme zip inside it.
How to fix it: Unzip the package and upload the zip that contains style.css at its top level.

“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading

Why it happens: The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
How to fix it: Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/themes with your host's file manager or SFTP.

Demo import stops part-way or times out

Why it happens: The server hits its execution-time or memory limit during the import.
How to fix it: Raise max_execution_time and memory_limit with your host, then re-run the importer; importing content, widgets and settings separately also helps.

Pages look broken right after activating

Why it happens: The theme's required plugins (page builder, theme core plugin) aren't installed yet.
How to fix it: Install and activate everything in the theme's required-plugins notice, then reload.
