This is the Stripe payment gateway add-on for Easy Digital Downloads. Customers enter their card details during checkout on your own site and do not leave it to pay, and the payment is processed through your Stripe.com account. It is an add-on, so Easy Digital Downloads must be installed and active first.

Download the file
Open My Account → Downloads and download the product. If the archive contains several zips (documentation, child theme, licensing files), you need the one named after the product.

In your dashboard go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and choose the zip.

Notes for this product
- This is an add-on for Easy Digital Downloads and does nothing on its own. Use your Stripe test keys first, and keep your SSL certificate valid.
Setup: using Easy Digital Downloads Stripe Payment Gateway 2.8.7
- Install Easy Digital Downloads. Make sure it is active and that your store and a product are set up.
- Activate the add-on. Install the gateway plugin and activate it.
- Enter Stripe test keys. In the EDD payment gateway settings, enable Stripe and add your API keys, starting with test keys.
- Run a test purchase. Buy a product with a Stripe test card and confirm the order and download arrive.
- Switch to live keys. Only after tests pass, enter your live keys and turn test mode off.
Common problems and fixes
Cards are declined or authentication fails, though they work elsewhere
- Why it happens
- An older gateway file may use payment methods that predate Stripe's current authentication rules.
- How to fix it
- Test in Stripe test mode, check the Stripe dashboard logs for the error, and move to a current gateway if the file cannot handle it.
Stripe fields do not appear at checkout
- Why it happens
- The gateway is not enabled, the keys are missing, or the page is not served over HTTPS.
- How to fix it
- Enable Stripe in the EDD gateway settings, re-enter the keys and check that the checkout page uses HTTPS.
“The link you followed has expired.” when uploading
- Why it happens
- The zip is larger than your server's PHP upload limit (upload_max_filesize / post_max_size).
- How to fix it
- Raise the upload limit in your hosting control panel, or unzip the file and upload the folder to wp-content/plugins with your host's file manager or SFTP.
“The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.”
- Why it happens
- The uploaded zip is a bundle (or a theme), not the plugin itself.
- How to fix it
- Unzip the download once and upload the inner zip named after the plugin.
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”
- Why it happens
- Usually a PHP version older than the plugin needs, or a second copy of the same plugin (for example the free version) still active.
- How to fix it
- Check your PHP version under Tools → Site Health → Info, deactivate any other copy of the plugin, and enable WP_DEBUG_LOG to see the exact error.
Licence or “updates unavailable” notices
- Why it happens
- The developer's licence key isn't included. Features that call the developer's servers (template libraries, cloud APIs, automatic updates) need it.
- How to fix it
- Everything that runs locally works without it. For a newer file, use Request an update from your account.
